We’re finally catching up on all the material we’ve recorded from 2011, and as part of that amazing year we’re proud to release Jack Ruby Presents – Live from the Banana Stand! The group played a great show opening for Death Songs last summer, and it’s been great to work with the band on tracks like “Old,” which was also featured on our Live from the Banana Stand – Vol. 1 compilation album.
Carefully crafting some of the best country-style songs in Portland, Jack Ruby Presents has been putting their own touch on a traditional genre that sets them apart. We’re excited to release some of their live tracks from one cool summer’s night not too long ago.
Jack Ruby Presents represents the strong scene of Northwestern folk that us Indiana transplants can really appreciate. Plus, everyone in the group is just as nice as can be. We’d seen footage of the band’s cover melody of “Strange Fruit/Three Hanging Men” by Billie Holiday and Murder By Death, respectively, and knew we had to record Jack Ruby Presents live.
The work paid off, as you can hear. The album is a bit shorter than some of the recording we release, although the group did play a full set. Like many live albums, not everything always goes to plan, so we’re putting out the best songs from that night to give listener’s the highest quality experience.
Jack Ruby Presents – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on June 25th, 2011 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed and mastered by Alex Arrowsmith. Brian David Smith produced art for the album, which includes original photography from various ‘Standers and the original show poster, also by Brian. The Banana Stand would like to thank Jack Ruby Presents (Chris, Melissa, Aaron, and Jesse), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
