Brownish Black – Live from the Banana Stand will be released on CD Thursday, March 6th at a record release show also featuring Minden and Ancient Heat (rad!) and to all digital retailers on Tuesday, March 11th. While you’re waiting for that, please enjoy the preview track, “Footsteps.”
As a fan of indie rock almost to a fault, Brownish Black were a welcome surprise when I first glimpsed them through the door of The Knife Shop a few years ago. The performance was phenomenal, and kind of a throwback — it was soul music! They actually got people moving, driven by the ripping horns, an excellent rhythm section, and the leadership of the dynamic M.D. Sharbatz and the vivacious Mz. V.
They’ll get you moving, too. It might seem strange — let’s face it, you’re probably unused to dancing at Portland shows. But, don’t worry: Brownish Black will get everyone dancing. So, put on this live record, get down, and you’ll be in good company.
Brownish Black – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on July 6th, 2013 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed by Adam Harney and mastered by Chris Vita. Dane Brist produced art for the album, which includes original photography Michael McInerney. The Banana Stand would like to thank Brownish Black (M.D. Sharbatz, Mz. V, mub Fractal, Ethan Boardman, Don Malkemus, Stephanie Shea, Marco Fusaro, & Rob Taylor), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
