The Titans of Industry – Live from the Banana Stand will be released in its entirety on Tuesday, November 22nd. Please enjoy the preview track, “On the Horn,” in the meantime.
Seattle power-pop is alive and well, and, for two evenings in early 2011, was alive and well in Portland also.
The Titans of Industry came to the ‘Stand to record for our February 26th event, just one month after our first Seattle act (A Million Years Ago) played. Even based on this small sample, we’re excited to connect to more bands from the Seattle scene in the future.
I’m not sure if The Titans of Industry would approve of my description of their music as power pop. Genres being difficult, use of this this label may be a bit too widespread, though it does seem applicable to the recent glut of up-beat, dance-y pop-rock bands (see also Blue Skies for Black Hearts, Tiger House). Led by Kellen Grace’s soulful, poppy keys and lead vocals, backed excellently by Matt Leon’s guitar, Matt Maisano’s drumming, Christopher Rager’s bass and further boosted by spot-on backing vocals, The Titans of Industry provided a sound that warmed up everyone on that cold February night. Their resulting live album — The Titans of Industry – Live from the Banana Stand — might be just the things to do the same for you on one of these cold fall/winter eves. Try it out.
This album is also notable for being our first release from our collaboration with Chris Vita. Chris is a mastering engineer and recent arrival to the Portland music scene following a stint on the audio faculty at Fairhaven College, Western Washington University. As you’ll hear, Chris is a very talented engineer with an incredibly precise ear for mixing/mastering work. He did tremendous work on these mixes. Stay tuned to this space for more from Chris.
As for The Titans of Industry? According to their Facebook, they’ll be hiding away for much of this autumn “to make a whole albumthing.” We look forward to this albumthing, and for more from The Titans of Industry.
Editors Note: There ended up being a few pops in these recording due to a hard-drive issue, but all agreed that the album was too good not to release.
The Titans of Industry – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on February 26th, 2010 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed and mastered by Chris Vita. Brian David Smith handled design and layout for album art, which includes original photography from various ‘Standers and the original show poster, also by Brian. The Banana Stand would like to thank The Titans of Industry (Kellen, Matt, Chris and Matt), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
