Live Record: The Angry Orts

The Angry Orts raised the temperatures of both our crowd and our basement when they brought their garage pop to the ‘Stand in late-November last year — even before they played their “fast, sexy shit,” as frontwoman Sara Hernandez noted.

There is plenty of “fast, sexy shit,” in their set, but there’s also a ton of soul. After warming up our audience (and basement) with You Bet, Get In Get Out, and No More, The Orts took it down a few notches to show their sweeter side before opening things up for the wow finish. Their live record, ripping through 14 songs in slightly under 45 minutes, displays the band’s range, talent, and energy. Excellent drum work from Matt Hernandez, often-nasty guitars from Aaron Ettlin and dynamic bass from Dusty Brooks would make The Angry Orts an interesting band with any vocalist. With Sara Hernandez’s phenomenal presence and performance they’re really something special.

The Angry Orts are an important part of Portland music, and a band whose music we’re happy to preserve in our archive. We hope you like their set as much as we do. Download it today for pay-what-you-want!

The Angry Orts – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on September 24th, 2011 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed and mastered by Alex Arrowsmith. Brian David Smith handled design and layout for album art, which includes original photography from various ‘Standers and the original show poster, also by Brian. The Banana Stand would like to thank The Angry Orts (Sara, Matt, Aaron and Dusty), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
