The Greater Midwest – Live from the Banana Stand will be released in-full on Tuesday, December 11th. Until then, please check out the preview track, “Well Fed.”
Our first live record from Banana Stand’s house band.
When I first visited Portland, I went to see The Greater Midwest play at Dante’s. I had never seen a show in Portland before, and I was inspired by every part of the experience. There were good local bands playing. A solid audience had turned out to appreciate their work. It was all being held at a bar that had been specifically configured for the purposes of holding shows. This experience, as much as any other, put me on the path to Portland and to Banana Stand.
Now, we’re proud to release this live record from our good friends. Minus a great cover of Born in the USA that we unfortunately can not afford the rights to, its seven tracks are a great look at a longtime part of Portland’s underground music scene. Intense, heartfelt, intelligent, and cathartic, it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect of the band’s live work. It’s also what we expect to find in the band’s first full-length studio album, Consumer Confidence. If this live album and the preview EP, Calm Down, Captain America, are any indication, it will be an album of note when released next February.
We hope you like this release as much as we do. If you do, please download it! Please also consider donating. All proceeds support bands, Banana Stand, and our post-production staff.
The Greater Midwest – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on December 31st, 2011 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed and mastered by Adam Harney. The Banana Stand would like to thank The Greater Midwest (Shawn, Nick, Jake, and Bobby), all who participated in this album’s creation, and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
