Why We Do This
The most important thing to us is documenting the live sound of bands like yours. Here's a few reasons we do what we do.
1. Live music is important.
2. Music, especially live music, is one of the things that makes Portland awesome.
3. Stop Making Sense and Just Another Band from LA are great albums. Mainstream-popular artists seldom release live albums, and even more rare are recent live albums that would be considered "great." There is something wrong with this.
4. Live is key to the history of music and humanity.
5. Music needs to be distributed more cheaply. Stealing is too easy, the price must be low and the convenience must be high.
6. Traditional record labels are bad and dying. There must be people to do the work of recording music, however, and give artists a way to make money so that they can continue to produce art.
7. In order for more music to be documented, the process of recording music must be streamlined. Otherwise you lose good, important music that happens in the moment.
8. No matter how many advancements have been made in digital recording, playing live and playing well is still the litmus test for successful bands.
