What We Do
Banana Stand Media preserves Portland's live sound.
Every so often, in secret, we host some of Portland's best bands to record in front of live audience at our secret venue, The Banana Stand. Our high-fidelity, multitrack captures of those performances are then mixed and mastered by talented producers. The resulting live albums are distributed as pay-what-you-want downloads and, occasionally, CDs. Live shows are recorded for free and profits from music distribution and licensing are split 40% Band, 40% 'Stand and 20% Mixer.
Banana Stand Media's goals are:

preserving Portland's live sound and making it available forever,

increasing appreciation for Portland's live sound,

creating a new stream of revenue for artists with very low time investment, and

generating a sustainable, accelerated model for music documentation and distribution.

Why we do it
Every day, great live music is performed and then lost forever. Every day, good bands break up, never to perform live again. If you are able to record music, it is imperative that you do so. Without more people documenting live music, essential parts of our cultural -- key parts of the musical history of Portland -- will be lost forever. Read more about why we do what we do.
