Wishbeard contacted us in January 2014 and I think we booked them that same day. They sounded like something from a cooler future. Dreamy synth-pop with a driving rhythm section — sign us up. And that style.
Take, for example, their Ally Sheedy 7″ (released after their BS set). The B-Side is called Quaaludes. I think the 80’s would approve. I had Vision Quest from Wishbeard’s It’s All Gonna Break EP on repeat for days, and felt hipper whenever I put it on. Everything we saw from Wishbeard made us want to work with them. The band lived up to our hopes in their performance, as you’ll hear on the record.
But, Wishbeard wouldn’t last. The group played its final show in December, 2014, making their Banana Stand record one of the best remaining ways to hear the band’s live sound. Though we miss Wishbeard, we feel lucky to have worked with them, and proud to be able to offer these records of their performance.
Wishbeard was one of the first bands we started to work with in Seattle and they seemed rad right from the start. Their songs were chill, but catchy, and they just seemed like nice people. The set was as expected: professional and on point. It’s a shame the group won’t be playing around anymore, but we’re glad to have capture their performance while it lasted. Perfect sounds for the majority of Pacific NW days.
Wishbeard brought a great vibe to the Banana Stand- kind individuals, wonderfully collaborative, with awesome taste in sound. The music was both nostalgic and completely unique to them; the kind of live set that leaves you wanting more.
Wishbeard – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on April 26th, 2014 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was recorded and mixed by Adam Harney and mastered by Chris Vita. Dane Brist produced art for the album, which includes original photography Michael McInerney. Videos of Wishbeard’s performance at Banana Stand feature footage from camera operators Michael McInerney, Nick Gattman, Tyler Bertram, and Darren Hartman, and were directed and edited by Michael McInerney. Banana Stand would like to thank Wishbeard (Bryn, Brighton, Jude, & Erin), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
