Live Record: Bearcubbin’!

Bearcubbin’! – Live from the Banana Stand will be released to all finer digital retailers on Friday, September 11th. The record’s release show is Sunday, September 13th at Mississippi Studios and also features Rags & Ribbons and BS faves Gaytheist. Hope to see you there!

“Bearcubbin’!? High School Field Trip to Murder Island? Sounds like an instrumental band to me. I wonder if it will be math-y?”

Of course it was, and brilliantly so, and I feel fortunate for it.

Bearcubbin’!’s Girls With Fun Haircuts helped the band take Portland by storm in early-2014. Girls seemed to be a display not only of impressive musicianship and songwriting, but also of dedication to a considered aesthetic in the band’s presentation. I had the record on repeat for weeks. I wasn’t alone. The name Bearcubbin’! seemed immediately to be on the lips of every local tastemaker, and it felt like they were on every cool regional bill.

And, we’re lucky to say, Bearcubbin’! recorded at Banana Stand in July 2014. Terrifically vital and deftly delivered, the band’s live record shows exactly why Portland adopted Bearcubbin’! so rapidly. Covering all songs from Girls With Fun Haircuts, but with the unmatched live energy of Banana Stand’s sweaty basement, the record is a fitting testament to a group that absolutely must be considered amongst Portland’s best new bands (no caps).

Bearcubbin’! – Live from the Banana Stand is a wonderful break from Portland’s more-traditional indie fare and a record I’m proud to add to Banana Stand’s library. I hope you’ll be excited to add it to yours as well — it costs just pay-what-you-want! You probably should download it already.
