About Your Rival: When Mo Troper hooked us up with his band's Seven Sparkling Children EP we knew that we wanted to get Your Rival in as soon as possible. Recorded with Nate Sonenfeld (drums), Parker Johnson (bass), Jarret Domen (guitar) and with backing vocals by Blaise Faust and Gavin Bowes (who, with Troper, mixed the album), Seven Sparkling Children shimmers through seven tracks of the poppiest power pop while also bringing to mind Cherry Peel era Of Montreal. It's a great album, and the others available on the group's Bandcamp page are similarly excellent.
However, don't listen to me, listen to an actual music writer. Willamette Week's Michael Mannheimer --
Your Rival rounds out to a quartet for its live performances, but most of these songs would stand out with just Troper and an acoustic guitar. It’s a testament to the power of his songwriting, really; and even though these songs are sort of predictable, I still want to listen to them over and over again. With a little bit of seasoning, and a better recording budget, Troper and his band could really be onto something. Music styles and genres come and go like LaMarcus Aldridge’s post game, but solid power pop is always here to stay.
We couldn't agree more. Check out more of Your Rival on Bandcamp, Facebook and MySpace. Be sure you're out at the 'Stand on July 30th to see them record live!
Like the intro says: we will also be joined on July 30th by a mystery band to be named later. Who will it be? Find out in later episodes of this show post.
EDIT, JULY 17th: The mystery band has been named. As was previously announced by our Facebook event, our July 30th show now features FOREST PARK.

About Forest Park: Most of what we've heard of Forest Park has come from their Four Songs Demo, which, wow, sounds great. Led by Katherine Paul's and Maya Kiko Stoner's vocals, and featuring Cyrus Lampton and Michael Campbell Forest Park produces beautiful, dreamy pop music that's perfect for a summertime evening. We love their sound. You will too. Be here to see them record live on July 30th!
