Curious Hands – Live from the Banana Stand is now available. Download it today!
Energetic, irreverent, and brisk, Curious Hands were one of the first Portland bands that I really loved. Why?
“You can take your subjugation, You can take your subjugation, You can take your subjugation, I’m just here to fuck your girls.” – Curious Hands, British Columbia
Things like that.
Their first live album, one of the best of our early releases, guaranteed the band a special place in our history. This second album, recorded two years later, cemented Curious Hands as one of the most entertaining groups to ever grace our stage.
Tyler Riggs and John Barrios, the frontmen and core of Curious Hands, were joined for this recording by long-time bassist Chris Ubick and drummer Jesse Stowell. In an interesting coincidence, Ubick’s career with Curious Hands was book-ended by his Banana Stand performances. Our first release with the band was his first performance with the group. This release was his last.
Curious Hands continue today with Nick LaRue on bass and Justin Fowler (Wooden Indian Burial Ground) on drums. Tyler Riggs has also joined members of Szyslak to create Bubble Cats. This new band produces a sound reminiscent of earlier Curious Hands, though harder, and sometimes drops ‘Hands songs (like 8-Bit, my favorite track from this set) into their live sets. Also be sure to check out the Curious Hands Bandcamp for their studio albums Bangin’ Like a Fox and Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Both are excellent summer jams.
Most importantly, though: download this live album! It’s great and will cost you as little as zero dollars! If you really like it though, please donate to us. All proceeds go to documenting Portland’s live music.
Curious Hands – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on July 30th, 2010 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was mixed and mastered by Alex Arrowsmith. Brian David Smith produced art for the album, which includes original photography from various ‘Standers and the original show poster, also by Brian. The Banana Stand would like to thank Curious Hands (Tyler, John, Chris, and Jesse), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
