“Damn, that dude makes good stuff.” That’s what comes to mind when I think of Chris Vita, who leads Broken Arm.
Chris first worked with us as an engineer. Not only did his work sound fantastic, but he impressed us with the care and attention he gave each project. No matter the job, whether production (Chris mixed and mastered our records for Radiation City, Tango Alpha Tango, and Grandparents, amongst several others), construction (his mastering space is both well-tuned and quite comfortable), composition, or performance (see Broken Arm), we’ve found Chris’s approach to be the same. It’s workmanlike in the best possible way. It’s calm, methodical, dedicated, and hopeful. It’s an approach that we’ve seen make really good things, time and again.
That brings us to this record. The tones are sweet. The alt-country compositions are well-considered, and the delivery is precise. The recording is superb (three of Banana Stand’s best worked on it, after all). With Chris’s attentive post-production work, the result is one of our best-sounding records.
It’s thoughtfully conceived and skillfully executed at every level. In other words, Broken Arm – Live from the Banana Stand is exactly what we expected from Chris and his band. We’re proud to add it to our library. We hope you will be, too.
Broken Arm – Live from the Banana Stand was recorded before a live audience on February 9th, 2013 at the Banana Stand in Portland, Oregon. The album was recorded by Tim Shrout & Adam Harney, and mixed and mastered by Chris Vita. Dane Brist produced art for the album, which includes original photography Michael McInerney. Videos of Broken Arm’s performance at Banana Stand feature footage from camera operators Michael McInerney, Darren Hartman, & Brian T. Baker, and were directed and edited by Michael McInerney. Banana Stand would like to thank Broken Arm (Chris Vita, Shawn Fleming, Joel Christiansen, Bryan Daste, and Chris Arnone), all who participated in this album’s creation and anyone that has helped us out along the way.
